I shot with Jess for the second time last month, and I shot a few rolls with the Holga. The natural light was already gone by that point, so I lit this with a speedlight off camera left and a shoot-through umbrella.
Jess is such a pro, she’s just a pleasure to work with. She’d had a long day of shooting and driving, but still hung in with me for about three hours. We got a lot of images that I really love, between the Holga shots, the Polaroids, and the digital images.

This is an image from our first shoot, back in July. She had this pretty worn, vintage girdle that I really liked, and we shot a couple of rolls with it. This was shot in the studio space I was using at the time with my Holga, on Ilford Delta 400. That’s just the available light, the studio had big windows.
One thing I’m learning is that different models do have very different styles. Velocity has a posing style that’s works very well for more alt fashion type images, she’s very creative.
I worked this image up for entering the Shots magazine call for their annual portfolio issue. I think it’s pretty unlikely that I’ll get in, but it was really good to review the work from my Holga series and see where things are at. I ended up sending them 16 images to consider.

I posted a couple of digital shots recently of Nevaeh in the shower at the Ace Hotel. I also shot some film with my Holga. I didn’t have any lights with me today, so this was Ilford Delta 400 film pushed to ISO 800.
I’m not always a big fan of grain, it depends on the situation. My outdoor shots I prefer to have a lot of light and use low grain film. But I like it a lot in this image, there’s a real mood to it.
I worked this image up for a group show I was in this summer at an online gallery called platestopixels.com. The site is run by Blue Mitchell, who also puts out Diffusion magazine. I think he has a great eye, so I was very flattered to be included in the show. And I was glad this image was one of the ones he chose.

Another image from my shoot with fetish model/performer Crash at Lake Mead in March. This was my first time shooting nudes outdoors, and it was really fun. She decided to wade out into this mud and it turned out to be a great spot. I have a bunch of outtakes of her slipping and dancing around trying to keep her balance. We laughed a lot.
This was a shoot I’ll remember for a long time. She’s a really sweet person, and after the shoot we hung out at the dock there and fed the fish.
I’m hoping to get down to LA sometime and shoot with Crash again. She’s someone that really appreciates the art in making images, a real collaborator.

Another shot of Stephanie. We ended up by this water just as the light got really amazing. It kept ducking behind the trees, and we’d have to move down the rocks towards it more.
Shot with my Holga on Ilford Delta 100.
