Finch Linden / Rich Burroughs Finch is one of my oldest model friends. We met back when I was just starting out working with models and our first shoot was almost three years ago in San Francisco. I thought we made some nice images, but looking back I was always kind of disappointed with my work that day. There wasn’t a lot of light in the hotel room we shot in and I had a lot of trouble dealing with it. I was just starting out shooting digital too, and I wasn’t that comfortable using my DSLR. If I did that same shoot today I know I’d do much better. So I was very excited when Finch told me she was coming to Portland in November and that I’d get a chance to try again. We set up a shoot on Thanksgiving day. It’s actually a very good day for me to shoot although I’d never done it before. I’m always off work and my family lives far away, I almost never have plans. This shoot was so much more productive than our first one. We shot images for my book on this Image Softtone film, and also some on the new Impossible Project Color Protection film. I really am a lot better at what I do now and I think Finch has also grown as a model. I’m so pleased with how we did. I shoot with a lot of amazing women, but the images are even more meaningful when the subject is also someone I care about. Finch is a very special person, and I think these images will mean a lot to me over time because she’s in them.
